Our Neighborhood

Our target area is the area of Dallas Texas commonly referred to as South Oak Cliff. It is bordered by the Trinity River, I-35, Loop 12 / Ledbetter, and I-45.
 
According to the 2000 Census, our target area is 86.9 % Black / African American.  The remaining population is predominately Hispanic.  38% of the population falls between the ages of 25 and 54 years.   13.2% of the population is 65 years and older.  In the family households with children, only 13.3% are headed by married couples.  30% of the family households are female householder with no husband present. 
 
2003 data obtained from ESRI Business Information Solutions shows that the 75216 zip code of Dallas Texas, South Oak Cliff,  has a median household income of $27,441, almost $14,000 less than the national level.  Over 76% of the households have incomes of less than $50,000.  The average home value is almost $110,000 less than the nation level.
 
The residents of our target area live with holes in their ceilings and floors, broken windows, unsafe steps, leaking plumbing, unsanitary kitchen and bath conditions, hazardous electrical systems, inadequate and unsafe heating and cooling systems, pest issues, and leaking roofs - to name just a few.
